Weekly Olive Oil Market Updates
Market Updates in Europe
The bulk olive oil market remains subdued following the latest AICA data release, with prices holding steady at last week's levels and no significant fluctuations. According to our Price Insights tool, EVOO prices in Spain, Italy, and Greece continue to follow a stable trendline. Spanish offers remain the lowest, while Italian prices have surpassed €9/kg due to extreme supply shortages. Price Insights provides real-time pricing updates, empowering buyers and sellers to make informed, data-driven decisions in a highly dynamic market.
Despite the market’s stability, buyers are delaying purchases in anticipation of further price declines. Many are closely monitoring the upcoming flowering season, expecting it to create more favorable buying opportunities.
While the EVOO sector shows early signs of recovery, with slight price increases, trading activity remains sluggish.
In Italy, as highlighted in our previous digest and confirmed by the Frantoio Report, olive oil availability is critically low, with stocks nearing depletion.
In Greece, prices have started to climb, but supply in mills remains scarce. Producers are holding out for higher prices, targeting €5/kg or above before committing to sales.
Olive pomace oil: Price drops boost market position
The olive oil market is currently undergoing significant price adjustments. In Spain, extra virgin olive oil prices have fallen below 4.3 euros per liter, approximately half of what they were a few months ago. This price decline also impacts olive pomace oil, with both crude and refined olive pomace oil prices steadily decreasing.
Crude olive pomace oil in Spain is now priced at 1.5 euros per kilogram, a decrease from last year’s price of 2.6 euros but in line with the five-year average. Refined olive pomace oil has experienced a substantial price drop, falling 78% compared to last year, although it remains above the five-year average.
Despite these price reductions, the outlook for the sector remains positive. Olive pomace oil is gaining ground due to its competitive pricing and growing awareness of its benefits, boosting its position in domestic and international markets. Global export opportunities are also expanding as olive pomace oil's cost-effectiveness and quality continue to strengthen its competitive edge, contributing to a stable market outlook. This trend is further reflected in increasing requests from Wikifarmer, demonstrating the growing demand for olive pomace oil.
